ACK. Shit. I just realized, while ruminating about the previous, that in my homeowning n00bness I totally forgot to shut off/drain the outside faucets before it got cold. The hose is still out there too. Have I just signed myself up for stupid plumbing expenses come spring?? Anybody know?

Seigfried and Roy!
I didn't do that either.
I was too busy with the inside of the house.

I thought shutting off water was more of a "it's a good idea just in case" thing than a "you are screwed if you forget to do it" thing. I don't know if the truth of that varies between Calgary and Ottawa though.

I wouldn't imagine it would vary, really...I mean, it gets colder in Calgary than it does here, and also there's the wacky sudden chinook thaws, so if anything I'd have thought it would be more necessary chez you than chez me.

If it's any consolation, I've never shut off my outside water tap nor taken the hose inside in the fall. I do however make sure the hose is drained after every use. I've never (*yet*) had a problem with burst pipes or hose failure.

Phew - that is definitely reassuring to hear!!
