Apr. 20th, 2007 09:19 pmHee! I am pretty pleased with myself just now, having just finished soldering the poppy mirror. Almost a week later than I meant it to be, not framed yet, and I guess it's staying silver because I forgot to patina before sticking the poppies on - oops. BUT. Pretty goddamned awesome nonetheless. Henceforth and until June I am not posting pictures, y'all will just have to come see me at teh show!!
I am more or less on schedule. This makes six mirrors, and if I get the tiger lilies soldered tonight it will be seven panels. And six weeks to go. Cathedral trees and a little hexagon mirror this week, I think. I found some gorgeous brown glass for the trunks and branches, and I have green coming out my ears; just need to snap up some background glass tomorrow after French and I will be good to go on that one. And the prodigious lack of fiddly bits means it should go pretty quickly, although the brown is notoriously bitchy Yogi glass, so we will see. For the hexagon mirror I think I'm going to break out
amazon_syren's blue globs, as well as some straight pieces. Possibly of that swirly glass that I have a frahillion scraps of.
Corey also discovered in his parents' basement a bunch of large mirrors they were going to get rid of - woohoo, free materials! Although I've pretty much used up my ideas for large mirrors, must come up with more.
Other than glasswise, I found out today that while my employment may be casual, it will be a casual IS02. Meaning, I will be out of the administrative stream and into something with much more interesting possibilities. And since switching desks I have gotten a few little "write this...condense that...check this" sort of assignments that are much more fun and absorbing than previous tasks, even if they're pretty straightforward. I say again: HA!
