Jun. 12th, 2007 05:00 pmI did some google-poking into the cost of child care, which we recently realized we should take into account in our house-buying schemes, and discovered child care in the NCR runs an average of about $900 per month. Wow. I mean, I knew it was expensive, but that may as well be a year of swanky private school, for god's sake. It's more than our current rent!
Among this google-poking I found a link to this report, which very clearly and devastatingly explains why the Tories' lousy excuse for a child care plan should have been thrown out the window. I had the impression that their allowance-in-lieu-of-subsidy thing was a bad idea, and that it smacked unpleasantly of right-wing preference for moms staying home, but my jaw about hit the floor, reading this. I mean, good God, are they insane??
Government response to the report is here. Somehow I am not reassured. Does anybody know how this played out, in terms of whether the report was accurate or not? I know they went ahead and implemented their dumbass plan, but I'm curious to know how it went over the last year...
