Aug. 11th, 2008 09:01 pmSpent a lovely if low-key weekend in Toronto. After getting stupidly, wretchedly sick on Thursday night for no immediately obvious reason (didn't eat right? didn't sleep enough? hormone spike? all of the above? who freaking knows) have felt pretty under the weather the last few days, so mostly we just hung out in our hotel room snoozing, watching the Olympics and re-reading Harry Potter.
We did, however, go see Avenue Q courtesy of my fabulous sisters. And it was hilarious nd awesome, involving some very impressive performances, particularly given the involvement of puppets (since this is, after all, a Sesame Street homage/send-up). The actors aren't hidden at all, they're walking around on stage with the puppets on their arms, but after a few minutes you don't even really see them anymore, and you barely notice that the same person is voicing more than one puppet character or that more than one person is involved in using both of a puppet's hands. That show must be a very peculiar experience for an actor, but it obviously requires consummate skill to pull it off.
Because I have to share: one of the very best songs. They've changed the names to Rod and Nicky so as not to get sued, but anyone who knows Sesame Street will recognize who this is supposed to be.

Also, another song that particularly cracked me up - I in fact never, ever, ever want to go back to college, in much the same way that I never, ever, ever want to be 16 again, but this somehow scored a big fat touche nonetheless.
