Sep. 20th, 2008 04:00 pmSo today I went on a big baby shopping expedition with my mom. This was fun, but pretty bewildering. I remain utterly bamboozled by baby stuff. I have a vague sense that there are things I need, but as far as what those things are, how the hell do I know??
One of the places we visited was the Extraordinary Baby Shoppe on Wellington, because a coworker passed on word that they were THE place to go, especially for cloth diapers and advice/info on same. A very helpful lady walked me through the dazzling array of different products available - I think I am going to try to register me and Corey for their workshop, because I was on info overload halfway through; I knew intellectually that cloth diapers had come a long way since flannelette squares fastened with pins, but, well, holy shit (...har har). She also demoed a sling, which I have heard much about but never really seen used, so that was interesting. Certainly looks comfier than a backpack style carrier. I suspect the ease with which she wrapped and tied it is borne of long practice, but practice is doable.
I will note that I really liked the store; both the ladies working there were young moms themselves, and in fact had their kids in tow - one was piggybacking in a carrier, and the other was cheerfully toddling around pulling stuff off shelves.
