I didn't get my bulbs planted today, but I did rake leaves, clean up the car, and poke around for light fixtures.

While at Rona, I also picked up with what to fix our downspouts. One downspout is emptying right onto the carport roof, which is no doubt contributing to ice dams in the winter and generally killing the shingles. The downspout coming off the carport roof, meanwhile, is a jury-rigged DIY monstrosity involving way too much caulking and too few fasteners, with the result that time and ice have it hanging in highly ineffective pieces from the gutter.

The biggest ladder we have is not big enough to get onto the carport roof, so our project today was to re-jury-rig the other downspout. This was a surprising amount of fun, and while the results were sort of hilarious, they should be at least as functional and durable as the last guy's stab at it. We'll see what happens when it rains. At least the eight-inch piece that we replaced at the top now goes INSIDE the piece below it instead of OUTSIDE, and there are two more screws holding everything together. And you think YOU used a lot of caulking, previous owner?? Well, we used EVEN MORE!

Now I think I will make cookies. And then eat them with tea and a book.
