Sep. 12th, 2009 09:49 amOMG I just had the most hilarious breakfast with Rose.
Food of the day: banana, initially cut up into little dice (as recommended by the CHEO dietitian and seconded by the intarwebs). The dice proved too slippery for her to get a good pincer grip going on. We worked our way up through bigger pieces to a whole half banana; while easier to grab, these were so soft she would squish right through them with her fist, and then the squished pieces would fall out of her hands. At one point she got frustrated and resorted to smashing those recalcitrant banana pieces all over the place by pounding her hands on the tray.
We eventually figured it out, though - wholesomebabyfood.com helpfully suggested breading slippery fruit with crushed cheerios to make it easier to pick up, and she seemed to catch onto the idea that she had to get a piece of banana to her mouth quickly before her grip squished through it and it fell apart. In the end I think we managed to get about 1.5 bananas into her, with the remaining half a banana either on her or strewn in mushy ruins over the tray and high chair.
