Random thoughts on naming kids

Our evil scheme is two children, one with Corey's last name and one with mine - because after all, why should I be the only Berube in my family?

Our coin-flip on whose name goes first will be whether child #1 is a boy or a girl - boy gets Yanofsky, girl gets Berube. Child #2 then gets the other name. Corey and I will both answer to either, such that people we know through our children can call me Mrs. Yanofsky without being corrected but they can also call Corey Mr. Berube.

Anybody who complains that this is too complicated will be told that the other alternative is changing everyone's name to Berubofsky.

I actually knew a couple who did the equivalent of Berubofsky -- Aaron Gormand and Kathleen Shaw became the Gormanshaws.

And I kind of like Berubofsky, you know. It sounds all Boris unt Natasha-esque. In fact, you could change your first names at the same time...

Berube will be known as Berry.
Berubofsky will simply be known as... Bofsky.

At that point, the only way to go in terms of careers is being an aging Vegas showgirl Mom, who still talks about people "boffing each other" in a smoke hazed voice that is still clearly amused by people boffing people, OR to become a serious Jewish literature reviewer in black frame glasses who kills the buzz at book parties by talking about Foucault's influence on, like, everything.

Berubofsky was clearly the best choice. I'm almost disappointed. XD ALAS I will have to be the younger aunt of children with normal names.
