Crap To Do Tomorrow:

* snap up (1) some plastic storage for papers and outgrown baby clothes and (2) some wine and (3) a movie
* get boxes from mom's place out of the front entryway
* babyproof the Zoodle's room (i.e. anchor bookshelf, tidy up crap on bookshelf and nighttable, pack up heap of outgrown baby clothes) - not sure how to secure the dirty-diaper bag and the garbage, though...?
* may as well hang some pictures in there while I'm at it, been meaning to get to that forever
* anchor bookcases in the living room
* move some books around and in doing so straighten out the project room
* pack up at least some of the big china cabinet
* make beef bourguignon
* bug Corey to get that last daycare reference
* fold laundry over wine and a movie in the evening

Wow, this two-part series on CBC's Ideas, called "The Hurried Infant", is super-interesting. All about "edutainment" vs. actual learning and how parents are being harassed to make their babies smarter by buying crap they don't need. Now, my own experience as a child was that learning is awesome fun and my parents encouraged it at every turn, so I tend to be suspicious of the whole ZOMG PLAY IS UNDER SIEGE alarm bell, which seems to backlash into ZOMG BAD PARENTING SHAME SHAME SHAME all too quickly. But I totally take the point that human interaction (vs. watching a screen) is vital, and that the marketing of edutainment products is scary in its exploitation of parental anxiety and competition.

Also, I love this quote:
"What matters most is that we convey our own love of reading to the child, and that we're conveying our love to the child at the same time, under the crook of an arm where reading begins. And that's really what we're talking about. It's this communication through stories of our love simultaneously for the child and for the world of story."
