In other news, the French class looks like nowhere near as much of an unholy drag as I expected. I am somewhat reassured of my ability to hit the B level - if I actually get enough out of this course to make a C, that would be amiracle bonus - although one guy, who speaks much more articulately than I do, got stuck in level A on his last test. That was a scary piece of information until the instructor said it was probably because he'd taken the exam by phone - apparently you should NEVER take the test by phone, not only because it's more stressful but because the people who do the phone tests are in Montreal and have insanely high standards. So, all in all, colour me slightly reassured.
Aaaaaand I rewarded myself for going to french class with a trip to the glass store, from which I'm still feeling all bouncy, despite spending rather a lot of money (offset, though, by an incredibly generous christmas gift from
arndis and
tchang - I totally owe you guys something for your window, let me know if you have a preference as to what or what colour...) The haul:
* jewel-tone glass for quilt-pattern suncatchers
* skinny lead for said suncatchers - this will be an experiment, since the guy at the store tells me that it is stupidly hard to work with, but I might be able to get away with it due to the geometric nature of the design...if it turns out to be a total pain in the ass, I'll just scrap the lead and switch to copper foil
* a beautiful bright blue 2 square feet of kokomo glass, which I totally could not resist despite not having a particular project in mind for it
* three pieces of cheapie cream-coloured glass, again with no project in mind but I have used this stuff enough to know it's endlessly good to have on hand
* glass for the two trees mirror, despite telling myself I wasn't going to buy this until I had a pattern. I found this UNBELIEVABLY GORGEOUS piece of kokomo glass that would be just perfect for the leaves - this ripple-textured stuff with swirly streams of green and gold through it - and then other pieces just kept jumping out at me to go with it. So now I just need to make the pattern and buy a mirror.
* zinc and hangers to finish off the peonies
* solder and foil, since I'm almost out
* new flux brush, since the old one is rusted and grotty
Anyhoo, need to call parents and join Corey for DDR and find recipes for dinner...up, up, and awaaaaaayyyyyy!
