A couple of things I've been enjoying today:
*
shiftercat sent me a link to And You Call Yourself A Scientist!, which includes thought-provoking and spot-on reviews of such classics as Alien and Terminator. For instance, an observation regarding the eponymous alien that is SO TRUE: "I mean, let’s be honest here: how many films are there where the monster is actually scary? Or scary once you got a good look at it? This one is – and miracle of miracles, the more you see of it, the scarier it gets." I never thought about the Alien franchise that way before, but: EXACTLY.
* The gardening blog of the Empress of Dirt, which is about as soothing as reading about gardening should be. Lovely photos, too.
A poem that she posted today, which I thought my flist might appreciate:
Lost
Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here, And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you.
If you leave it, you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows
Where you are. You must let it find you.
