If baby #2 (not due for a few years yet, for the record) turns out to be a girl, currently at the top of the list for names is Nadège - apparently a French transliteration of a Russian word meaning "hope". It came to mind because I knew a Nadège in grade school; I didn't know her well, as she was several years older than me, but her name always struck me as unusual and lovely.

Not sure what middle name we'd put with that, though, although we know she would be a Yanofsky.

Nadège Yanofsky? Nobody will be able to spell or pronounce her name!

Bah, humbug! Spelling Nadège I will grant you, but pronouncing it is easy, especially in this part of the country. I mean, if people in Calgary could manage it, I'm sure it would work here. And it is my firm belief that only the faint of heart have trouble with Yanofsky, which is totally phonetic.

Ami,

no.

Pronouncing it will not be easy.

People from Calgary will not manage it.

Please, take this as truth. I know.

Mark's mom's (who's linguisticaly Russian) has that name. She translates it to English as Nadia. If I had a russian keyboard, I'd type it for you.

Calgary anglophone here. :)

Is it pronounced "Nah-DEJ"?

/not intending to say it right or wrong, just asking whether my default is correct or silly. :P
