I find that if I'm angry, if I refuse to allow myself to act on it, sometimes later in similar circumstances the emotion doesn't bother surfacing. Not sure if that might work for not-caring too, if in fact this technique works for anyone other than myself. In any case, feel free to e-mail me if it would be useful to you. :)
I'm no good at not caring either. Eventually I'll get most of the way to apathy, because I can only do so much futile flailing. But in the long run, the only solution is to make the irritant go away by fixing it or running away.
